Become an HOTC Volunteer Ambassador

Thomas County is unique in so many ways:  from its history and character, to its active and vibrant sense of community which sets it apart from other places, big and small.  This community knows how to work and play hard!

As a volunteer organization, we find ourselves mostly focusing on the work that needs to be done.  However, as we’re connecting and interacting with current and prospective volunteers, we’re learning that there is definitely a fun and social aspect to volunteering.  People volunteer for many different reasons:  to make a difference, because they have spare time to fill, to learn about community needs, and to meet and interact with new people.

With that in mind, in partnership with our non-profit partners, we’ve created the Volunteer Ambassador program.  Here’s the idea:  Many of our non-profit partners have events that attract both local and out-of-town visitors.  We always need volunteers to help work these events.  But again, there is such focus on the work (and rightly so!), we often don’t have time to pay proper attention to the attendees.  To make sure they’re having a good time.  To answer questions about the event, non-profit or our community.  To properly meet and greet and make sure every attendee feels and knows they are welcome and important.  Plus, it’s always nice to have a few extra hands on deck for any unexpected surprises!  This fulfills an important role for the non-profit, and allows a volunteer to experience a more social side of volunteering while also getting a more in-depth look at our non-profits and their needs.
