For 2019, HOTC is making a new year’s resolution. This is one we definitely won’t be breaking, and we invite you to be a part of it!
It has been proven that volunteering:
—encourages physical activity by doing
—lessens stress by transferring focus from ourselves to others
—alleviates depression through social contact and rewards
—lengthens life spans thanks to a healthy and active body and mind.
—improves our neighborhoods & places. A physically pleasing & clean environment reflects on its residents’ well-being
—assists youth, families, and seniors through literacy, hunger, and wellness programs
—creates a stronger, more united community.
All of these benefits make us healthier in body, mind, and spirit. Volunteering is good for you and good for our community!
In 2019, HOTC will provide coordination, funding, and volunteer labor to support projects which offer an opportunity for Thomas County residents to live well and live better. Projects will be selected based on need, impact, and partnership opportunity. Specific projects may include:
Building community gardens allowing for better, fresher food choices; and sustainable living practices
Creating crosswalks, bike lanes, and walking trails for safer pedestrian and cycling experiences
Installing trash cans in high traffic areas, picking up litter, beautifying vacant lots to foster a cleaner environment
New disc golf course, improved play areas, bikes for kids, new walking/bike trails to encourage physical activity
Manna drops featuring fresh produce, and healthy recipes and tips to promote better eating habits
This is an extension of, and new perspective on, our volunteer event days and projects for 2019. We encourage our non-profit partners and volunteer groups to submit project ideas to ensure community buy-in. We will also work with current partners and projects to incorporate a healthy living component. Projects that fit the healthy living theme may qualify for full or partial funding from HOTC.
Have an idea that fits? Let us know! Want a healthier you and a healthier community? Come be a part of our efforts. Together, we make a difference.
