Midway CME in Thomasville, GA was founded in the 1800s, and served as the primary church (and later, school) for locally enslaved people, and later, their freed descendants. Over time, nature has taken over the cemetery. The small fraction of what can be seen today, has been cleared by a single former attendee. It has taken three years for him to uncover what has been done so far. There are still countless graves beyond those woods.
Volunteers are needed to help clear the overgrown bushes and vines that cover the many graves at Midway CME Cemetery. If you can lend a hand, fill out this online form, or just show up!
Don’t forget to tell them HOTC sent you!
