Tis the season to give thanks for all that you have, and to spread the cheer to those in need. Help make the holidays merry for kids and others in our community by giving to one (or more) of these organizations devoted to helping others. We will be adding more as we hear of them.
The Thomasville Junior Service League is preparing for their Annual Bargain Bazaar by accepting donations of furniture, clothing, baby items, kids toys, sporting goods, holiday items, electronics, household items, shoes, purses/bags. If you would like to donate, you may drop off your items on December 3 or January 7 from 11 am – 2 pm at Susie Q’s Mini Storage. All proceeds support the children of Thomasville and Thomas County!

The holiday tree at Hands & Hearts includes opportunities to donate items such as learning supplies that directly assist our riders in their lessons and tack such as halters and saddle pads for our wonderful therapy horses. For more info, email Joanne Thomas call (229)551-0086
This organization provides residential and community mental health services for at-risk youth ranging from 8-17 years old. They often see an influx of new youth residents during the holidays, and need your help to provide them a comfortable stay. Items needed: NEW combs, brushes, linens (twin size bed sheets, standard pillows and cases, twin size comforter sets, blankets, towels, wash cloths), backpacks. Also welcome: card or board games, puzzles. Items may be dropped off at 1815 E. Clay Street. Deadline is 12/21.
The Giving Tree – Purchase wish list items or make a donation for someone to purchase items on your behalf to benefit a child who is a victim of abuse or neglect. Deadline is 12/5. Call Jackla at 977-1639 or email for wish list, sizes, etc.
What will be on your holiday table? The Food Bank is asking for donations of canned and packaged food to provide clients the basics for a simple holiday meal. Donations can be dropped off at 430 N. Broad Street on Monday afternoons, or Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Contact Janice at 226-7038 or email for more information.
Angel Tree – Adopt an Angel Tree child. Call 226-3772 to adopt a child for Christmas. Deadline is 12/7. Click here for specific needs. If you are not able to “adopt” a child, you may also make donations from the wishlist and drop off at The Salvation Army at 514 N. Madison Street.
Stuff a Stocking – Stop by The Salvation Army to adopt a senior citizen for Christmas and pick up a stocking. Fill the stocking with these recommended items. If you are not able to “adopt” a senior citizen, you may also simply drop off donations from the wishlist. Deadline is 12/2.
The YMCA has a Santa Tree in their childcare department. Some families in their program don’t have the ability to provide Christmas gifts for their children. The Santa Tree provides the hope of receiving toys, clothes, or other items to make Christmas happen. For many kids, the gifts they receive through the Santa Tree will be the only ones they open on Christmas Day! Contact Bebe Thedford at 226-6082 or at email@example.com for more information. The Georgia State Patrol (Thomasville Post #12) at 4800 U. S. Hwy. 84 Bypass, is collecting toys for the United States Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys for Tots” program. Need some additional information? Click here! Donations of new and unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Georgia State Patrol Post in Thomasville (they are open Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm). Deadline is 12/18.
In an effort to assist those in need in our community this holiday season, AmeriGas in Thomasville, GA, is holding a canned good/non-perishable food drive for the Rescue Mission Conquest Center, also known as The Soup Kitchen, in Thomasville, GA. Donations can be dropped off at 16107 US Hwy 19 N in Thomasville, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. All donations will boxed up and taken to The Rescue Mission on December 16, 2016.
