Project Impact 2014 – Day 4

Preparedness was today’s theme: being aware of potentially dangerous situations on land and in the water, knowing what to do in case of an emergency…for yourself, your friends, your family, your community. We worked with the Red Cross in the morning on basic first aid and cpr, focusing on the compression technique. The afternoon was spent at the Thomasville YMCA, reviewing basic water safety, taking a swim test, and learning how to identify and safely help a swimmer in distress (without putting themselves in danger).

Although our campers weren’t painting fences, sorting boxes or digging up shrubbery, they were volunteering their time to make themselves better educated and aware citizens who might be able to lend a hand in an emergency situation. We think that is volunteer time well spent!
